The Bottled Water Controversy

Bottled water has long been accepted as a healthy thing to consume. The bottled water industry would like for us to believe that our tap water is close to the most dangerous thing you can ingest while forgetting to mention that millions of barrels of oil is used to produce the huge number of bottles that are seldom recycled. It has been estimated by green proponents that 90% of all bottled waters actually end up in landfills. The bottled water industry says that the number should be more like 30% that are recycled, leaving 70% of them destined for the landfill, which is still a large number.

According to CBS News in 2009, they claim that 40% of all bottled water comes from a tap just like the one in your home. Bottlers do not like to disclose where their water comes from and some tests on bottled water and tap water seems to suggest that there really is no difference. If this is the case there are two issues that need to be looked at.

First, if tap water and bottled water are the same why would you want to pay up to $2 for a bottle of water that you can get for free from your tap. Second, just buy one of the really cool aluminum refillable water bottles and fill it with tap water to help save our landfills from the millions of empty water bottles placed there every year.

What do you say? Do you agree or disagree. Please let me know.
