Can Going Green Actually Save You Money?

If you ask most people if going green can save you money, you will probably get the majority of responses telling you that going green actually will cost you a great deal more money.  The main reason for this is that most green products do cost more than those not considered green.  It seems that many people have no problem with paying a premium price for items that carry the "green" badge.

I do not think that most people understand that there is more to going green than buying "green" items at the department store.  This article is designed to help you see that going green can actually save you money.  Let's go straight to it.

1. Eating Healthier Will Save You Money in the Long Run - Going green in the food department may seem to cost more but in the long run, you will pay for it medically.  Buying and eating cheap processed foods will ultimately lead you to medically imposed problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, stroke, heart attack, and more.  That cost alone will run into the thousands of dollars.  Purchasing food from local co-ops is a green option that will pay off in better health and, thus more money in your pockets.

2. Greenify Your House - Did you know you can save up to 30% in your electricity savings by merely weather stripping, caulking and plugging up any small holes in your home's interior?  That is a small price to pay to gain such a great savings in the pocketbook.  This is probably the easiest, and least expensive, way to go green.

3.  Go Green in the laundry Room - Simply by doing your laundry in cold water, you can save over $100 per year in the cost of heating water to do laundry in warm or hot water.  Nowadays, there are many great green detergents that are made for washing clothes in cold water.  The detergent may cost a few cents more but you will save in the run once again.

There are many other ways that going green can save you money.  I just wanted to give you a few of the easy ones so that you will "buy into" going green.  The Earth needs more people to "buy into" going green.  One person can make a huge difference if enough people decide to make that difference.
