Greenest Countries

In January of 2008, Newsweek Magazine reported on Yale University's ranking of 149 countries according to an environmental performance index (EPI)--a weighting ofcarbon and sulfur emissions, water purity and conservation practices. I find it interesting, but not surprising, that the United States is not close to the top.

The USA corporate world has embraced the marketing ploy of pushing green on almost every commercial you see, yet the United States ranks 39th of 149 countries. What will be even more interesting is to see where the US ranks in future studies.

I have to admit that I expected the United States to be even lower than 39th but there are some standards set forth out there that major manufacturers have had to comply with.

The top 5 countries are:
1 Switzerland 2 Sweden 3 Norway 4 Finland 5 Costa Rica

The point I want to make here is that the United States, and any other country, can only make better strides toward going greener if individuals each do their part. Individuals becoming green can add up to a group of millions and it is not that hard to start small and build from there. Go through some of our older posts and look for suggestions. I think you will like what you see.
